Falling into Rarohenga literacy project

 

Recently my class has been reading a book named "Falling into rarohenga" Rarohenga is "hell" or "the underworld" in Māori.

The book tells the story of two twins Tui and Kae who are trying to find the way back to the overworld, they encounter many different beasts along the way and one of them is the "Peropero".

"Dragan!!!! come onnnnn, you said we were gonna play spotlight!"

"Shut your mouth Kaja, I'm looking for my headtorch."

Ollie, Cliff, Kaja and I have been waiting for what feels like hours and Dragan finally gives up.

Cliff is first to be in, Ollie was found within a matter of seconds, Kaja and I moments after.

We all give up on playing and decide to walk around. 

Everyone turns their heads towards the bush, "I could've sworn I saw someone in there…" 

"C'mon Cliff your just seeing things"

"No! Ollie, I'm being serious."

In the end we all decided to check it out.

"Cliff you going crazy, no one's here."

"Trust me Dragan, I'm telling the truth! I know what I saw."

"Uhm Sophie? I don't have a good feeling about this"

"It'll be fine Kaja, if anyone is there im gonna beat them up" I say as I pick up a scooter.

We continue to walk around when Cliff and Ollie disappear, like any remotely normal person we decide to search for them.

"I don't like this, they're gonna jumpscare us, I know it!"

"Kaja, like I said. I have my so-called weapon" we both burst into laughter as we hear something in the bush again.

"Come on guys its getting pretty dark, we have to go inside soon"

"Dragan shhh I see someone!"

Kaja points to the bush with her torch and i see what she was looking at, it was Ollie.

I hold the scooter tight and ask Kaja if she saw Cliff too.

"I don't think he's there, maybe they split up"

"I'm not sure Cliff would agree to that after what he saw in the bush" I reply

She nods in agreement

My Fifteen Minute Writing! UPDATED!!!

 Recently my class has been doing 15 min writing. I have been continuing my writing over the past few days, this piece is not yet finished but it should be soon!

Drama. That's really all my life is, people turning on me every second. Whether there are so called "friends" or not. I'm never really sure if I can call anyone a friend at this point, one minute we're best friends and the next they seem to hate my guts. I'm Emily, and this is my life.

Chapter One

Dear Diary,  18.5.1989

Today was difficult. (As expected) I spent a whole 45 minutes trying to figure out one math question, I had never had the confidence to go up and ask for help.

Once that was all over, it was break one. As usual I had one friend, a good one.

Alex has been my friend since first grade, but now that we are at intermediate we have been split into different homerooms.

That's all I really have to say for today I guess. 

Dear Diary, 19.5.1989

Today was the same as usual, boring.

Nothing really happened but I did realise that someone started a rumour about me having a crush on Brendon. As if I would ever like him. 

Today we also had our school assembly, which was normal.

I have nothing more to really say so I think I will end it here.

Today was more interesting than usual.

We were sitting in the middle of class writing in our textbooks as there was an announcement from the speakers, and that is how I found out that all 7th grade students will be headed to camp in 10 days.

I knew I would be in the same cabin as Alex for sure but one there are supposed to be three people per cabin. I wonder who the third person will be.

Today Alex and I gave up searching for a third member for the cabins.

Eight more days until camp.

Nothing interesting today, but I'm starting to get excited for camp.

Seven days left.

Alex and I are discussing sneaking candy into camp.

Six days remain and excitement is growing.

Plans are being made.

Three days have passed by and camp is here. We are going to be taking the school bus in a few minutes.

Today was okay. I now know who the third person is, Isabelle Parker.

School bully and teacher's pet, turns out no one wanted to group with her so she was put with us.

Things can't get any worse can they?

No one is awake yet, this is the only time I have to write.

Yesterday we started with a one hour session of archery, after we had a forty-five minute session of rock-climbing.

Then came lunch, the food was disgusting, I felt sick just thinking about it.

Isabelle wasn't as annoying as I thought she would be. I really expected her to be ok but she was awful. I have to go Alex is waking up.

Dear Diary, 31.5.1989

Today Isabelle was caught sneaking candy into the movie room, as a result of that she will have to sit out of today's horse riding.

Rocky The Bear

A few weeks ago my mum had the idea of creating a teddy bear made of stones on our front lawn for lockdown.

First we drew out the design, then we drew it into the mud with a stick.

After we got some lunch then we set to work again, we collected stones and placed them on-top of the lines we had drawn.

After a few hours we were done with the outline! next we set out to collect some colour, my mum collected moss and flowers while i collected other things such as leaves.

Nearing the end of the day we had finished.

Do Some Baking!

Whether your new to cooking or not, quarantine is a great time to bust out the kitchen tools.

Make anything from cakes to pasta, the options are limitless!

Make a fort!

In my opinion you can never be too old to mess around with a bunch of pillows and blankets. Making a pillow fortress it a activity that can let you bond with siblings too!

Make some art.

Personally during lockdown I have broken out my paint and paintbrushes quite a few times its a easy boredom breaker.

If your stuck for what to paint just look at the world around you and paint a few landscapes, or fling around a bunch of coloured paint for a abstract look. Still stuck? Try follow a tutorial!

Create your very own blog.

When you create a blog it can be about anything, whether it's about art or its about nature or science.

Go ahead and share your experiences with the outside world!

Yt or Netflix

If none of my suggestions are working wasting time on youtube or netflix is a good way to pass time.

Dont watch to much or your eyes will go square!

First few weeks at Otaki College!

 First few weeks at Otaki College!

A couple weeks ago the school holidays sadly ended. As a result of that college started! 

Every day I get dressed into my new uniform, pack my bag and walk to school! 

Because i'm still getting used to it my dad walks me to the school entrance.

As a yr 7 I don't get to choose my own subjects but I know what they will be once i'm old enough (yr 9) the subjects I will choose HomeEc (cooking) Japanese and Art!
